Club History
River Hills Ski Club, founded in 1932, is a 150 member club which owns a lodge on Route 100, six miles from the Killington ski area. The present lodge was built in 1959. An expansion in 1973 gave the lodge its present configuration of 40 beds, two living rooms, fireplace, kitchen, dining room, game room, and ski tuning bench. Most of the lodge operations are handled by club members through participation on various committees.
During the ski season Saturday evening dinner preparation and dish washing are handled by contractors. Other meals are prepared by the lodgers. During a visit, all lodgers are assigned minor chores — set table, empty trash, shovel snow, make a fire, etc. In addition to lodge usage during the ski season, activities include the Spring Fling, mountain hiking, Holiday party, New Year’s Eve party, ski bus trips, and other events. RHSC membership is comprised of singles, couples and families, and range in age from early 20s to 80s. Enjoyment of skiing and friendship are the hallmarks that make River Hills the successful ski club it has been for over 80 years.
